Edwards and Jones/Garger sit atop Wynlakes' leaderboards

Round one of the Wynlakes Junior Classic proved difficult for our players today; lush fairways and undulating greens resulted in no rounds under par in the 82-player field. Despite the difficult golf course, littered with hazards and OB, Sarah Edwards and Gregory Jones / Andrew Garger lead the overall championships on even par.

The female 12-14 division is lead by 2027-grad Anna Christian Beeker. The youngest player in the field carded a first-round score of 87 to lead by one in the division. Right behind Beeker is Virginia Ann Holmes of Montgomery, AL. The hometown player carded an opening round of 88.

Leading the female 15-19 and overall female championship by five strokes is Sarah Edwards. An opening 72 puts Edwards well clear at the top of the leaderboard, after the Floridian posted four birdies in her opening 18 holes. Sitting in second place, thanks to an opening round of 77 is Tori Roush of Fairhope, AL. Roush played well on the back nine to come home in 37 and sit one stroke clear of T-3. Payton Pacheco and Morgan Jones are tied for third place in the division after opening rounds of 78. Both players will look for a fast start tomorrow, in hopes of catching the leader.

Alex Roberts and William Stelt sit atop the male 12-13 leaderboard. Both players carded strong opening rounds of 74 to lead the division by two strokes. The duo made five birdies between them and will look to battle it out in the final group tomorrow. Also in that final group, and two strokes back in third place, is Graham Hodges. An opening 76 puts Hodges in a good position to make a run at the leaders tomorrow morning.

Leading the male 14-15 and overall male championship is Andrew Garger of Sharpsburg, GA. Garger posted an impressive round of 72 to lead his division by one stroke. The 2022-grad made three birdies on the front nine today and will hope for more of the same tomorrow. Sitting one stroke back in second place is Robert Davidson. Having made three birdies, Davidson shot 73 and is also in a good position to make a charge tomorrow. Tied for third in the division are Jake McDonald and Shaun Price. Both players shot 76 today and find themselves two strokes ahead of their next competitor.

Tied with Garger for the overall lead and the outright leader of the male 16-19 division is Gregory Jones. The Mobile, AL native made just two bogeys in his opening round of 72 and played some very solid golf to lead his division. One stroke back in second place is Justin Vincent of Athens, AL. The graduate made two birdies and three bogeys today to keep himself in the fight for tomorrow. Tied for third place with opening rounds of 74 are Ryan Demit and Dawson Garrett.
