The Southeastern Junior Golf Tour's 2017 season began today at the annual Sea Island Junior Classic. This is the 23rd year of existence for the SJGT. The Sea Island Junior Classic is a popular event held every Martin Luther King Holiday weekend. Temperatures were near perfect today as we saw a high of 70 degrees. We could not have asked for a more ideal forecast for this exciting weekend of golf.

In the Female 12-14 division we find Warner Robins, GA native, Mailey Grace Buzzell. Buzzell is not only leading the 12-14 division but also sits at second overall trailing by only 4. Buzzell records a 75 in round one shooting the lowest tournament round of her young career. Trailing behind Buzzell is Josie Arant of St. Simons Island, GA who records a 76.

The Female 15-19 division finds senior, Mary Katherine Horton of Birmingham, AL firing a one under par 71. Horton fires the low round of the day for all ladies and looks to hold on to her lead throughout this three day event. Sitting tied for second are Lexie Dawson of Woodstock, GA and Mary Mac Trammell of Mountain Brook, AL.

The Male 12-13 division holds 14 players this year. Firing an impressive one under par, 71, is Ballou Phillips of Augusta, GA. Phillips leads the division by 5 as his closest competitor is Zachary Ong of Scarsdale, NY. Looking to make a move in round two is Parker Highsmith of Valdosta, GA who fires a 6 over par, 78.

In the Male 14-15 division we find Lindsey Cordell of Rome, GA leading the field with an incredible 3 under par, 69. Cordell finds himself in the final group in round two. Coming in second is Ian Glanton of Metter, GA who fires a 2 under par 70. Trailing closely behind the lead is Macon, GA native, James Spivey who records an even par finish, 72.

The Male 16-19 division sees some action today as six players sit at even par or better. Firing the low round of the day is local St. Simon Island native, Thomas Hogan. Hogan fires an ecstatic 5 under par, 67. Brock Nixon of Kennesaw, GA sits at second as he fires an impressive 4 under par 68. Finding himself in third is Chip Thompson of Thomasville, GA who fires a 2 under par 70.

Everything is shaping up to be a fun round two. Round two will begin at 8:00 AM at the Sea Island Retreat Course. Weather looks great and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
