Im leads girls, as six boys tie for Chattahoochee lead

90+ degrees Fahrenheit welcomed our players, families and spectators to the 2018 Chattahoochee Junior Classic today. Round one featured a number of under par rounds, as firming conditions gave extra bounce and roll throughout the golf course. An exquisite golf course, in the form of Chattahoochee Golf Club, allowed our players to score well and enjoy their play. Sara Im leads the overall female championship, whilst six players are tied for the overall male championship lead.

Im carded an opening round of 70 (-2) to take an early lead in the female 12-14 division and overall female championships. Im’s two under round contained two bogies and an impressive four birdies. She leads the division by six strokes and the overall championship by four strokes. Sitting in second in the division is Reagan Southerland. The Atlanta, GA native posted an opening round of 74 and is three strokes ahead of third place. Rounding out the division top three is Reagan Folk. The 2024-grad bounced back from an opening nine of 42 to finish at just seven-over par for the day (79).

Leading the female 15-19 division is the trio of Tori Owens, Ainsley Cowart and Mart Hunt Murray. All three players posted rounds of 74 and find themselves set for a Sunday shootout tomorrow. Owens made a double bogey on her first hole today but fought back strong and remained even par for her remaining 17 holes. Cowart also made a double bogey in her opening round but offset it with three excellent birdies. Mary Hunt Murray, a 2020-grad, made an eagle on the par-5 6th hole to get her on her way to a strong opening round of 74.

With five players within two strokes of the lead, the male 12-13 division is also set for a close contest on Sunday. Brennan Cozad leads the division alone with his opening round of 73 (+1). Cozad made four birdies over the tricky Chattahoochee layout and holds a one-shot lead. Tied for second we see Billy Abdow, John Brady Knight and Marshall Butler. All three players shot 74 (+2) on their opening rounds and will look to make a charge at the leader tomorrow morning.

Leading the way in the male 14-15 division, and two of six players tied for the overall male lead, are Maxwell Ford and Will Love. Both players shot excellent rounds of 70 (-2) to lead the division and made eight birdies between them. Tied for third in the division are David Ford and Andrew Garger. Both Ford and Garger posted impressive rounds of 71 (-1). Perhaps even more impressive, the duo made 10 birdies between them today!

Also posting rounds of 70 (-2), tied for male 16-19 and overall male leads, were Connor Rostowsky, Parker Rostowsky, Will Kahlstorf and Ryan Hogan. The four players played very well on the opening day, each finishing two-under par. The Rostowsky brothers will find themselves paired together in the final group tomorrow, after matching each other shot-for-shot today. Kahlstorf and Hogan also carded impressive rounds today and will hope to break the deadlock at the top of the division leaderboard tomorrow.
