Newton and Liford Win Saugahatchee
The SJGT is playing host to two events this week with the Saugahatchee Junior Classic and the Georgia Club Junior Classic. The Saugahatchee event was scheduled for 18 holes on Tuesday and the remainder 18 holes on Wednesday. Half of the field turned in scorecards after round one as the weather played a huge role in the finishing of round one and two. Today, players got started with where they stopped after a heavy downpour for the rest of the evening. All in all, round two was a beautiful day and 36 holes was completed.
In the Female 12-19 division we find Shelby Liford from Knoxville, Tennessee claim her second victory on tour this year as she shoots a 75-77 for a two round total 152. Liford's play was good enough for a 4 shot lead over her next competitors. Mary Katherine Horton from Birmingham, Alabama and Jordyn Hodgson from Daphne, Alabama both find themselves tied with scores of 156. Â Tying for fourth place was Anna Claire Little (Auburn, AL) and Mimi Taylor (Atlanta, GA) with scores of 158.
Parker Bell from Tallahassee, Florida continues his winning ways as he records his third victory on tour this year. Bell had two rounds in red figures, both of 71 for a two under par finish of 142. Carter Loflin from Duluth, Georgia brings home second as he shoots rounds of 75-82-157. Bringing home third for the division is Aiden Ash, also from Tallahassee, Florida with scores of 78-80-158.
In the Male 14-15 division Robert Davidson from Oneonta, Alabama pulls away with a one under par round one and a 3 over par round two for a two day total of one over par. Jake Springer from Tallahassee, Florida takes second with scores of 74-78. Two players sit tied for third in the division and those players are Thomas Quinn (Tallahassee, FL) and Matthew Cush (Alexander City, AL) with scores of 155.
Local Auburn native Connor Newton continues his great play as he brings home the trophy in the Male 16-19 division. Newton who had scores of 67-70 for round one and two brings his tallies to 7 under for the tournament. Connor Newton is now 11 under par for the last two SJGT events he has participated in. George Hall also from Auburn fired rounds of 71-72 to total his second place victory to 143. Hunter Logan from Steens, Mississippi fires rounds of 71-73 to shoot even par and walk away with third.
