SJGT Invitationals

Each year, on the SJGT schedule, we host four invitational-style tournaments. These events are the SJGT Championship, UGA Invitational presented by AutoTrader, SJGT Cup, and the Tournament of Champions. Each of these exclusive events features a different registration and exemption method. The guidelines for entry into these four tournaments are displayed below (subject to change):

2018 SJGT Championship (July / August)

Field Size: 84 players (6 players in Female 12-14 division, 15 players in Female 15-19 division, 12 players in Male 12-13 division, 24 players in Male 14-15 division, 27 players in Male 16-19 division).

Format: 36-hole strokeplay.

Entry Requirements: Field is determined by the SJGT Player of Year points.

Additional Info: If your birthday causes you to move age divisions before the Championship, and you had enough points to qualify in your previous division, you are automatically eligible to play in your new division.

Example: Tiger is 13 years old and he has 5,000 points. His 14th birthday is on May 20th, before the Championship. There are 12 player spots available in the Male 12-13 division and 5,000 points places 5th on the list. Tiger would then qualify to play in his new Male 14-15 division at the SJGT Championship, due to the amount of points he had in his previous division.

2018 UGA Invitational presented by AutoTrader (October)

Field Size: 84 players (6 players in Female 12-14 division, 15 players in Female 15-19 division, 12 players in Male 12-13 division, 24 players in Male 14-15 division, 27 players in Male 16-19 division).

Format: 36-hole strokeplay.

Entry Requirements: Previous division champions from the UGA Spring tournament are exempt.

Exemptions are also given to the following players, from the prior year UGA Invitational:

  • 12-14 Female winner
  • 15-19 Female top-3 and ties
  • 12-13 Male winner
  • 14-15 Male top-3 and ties
  • 16-19 Male top-3 and ties

All other field entries are taken based on Player of the Year points.

Any SJGT member may sign up for initial registration.

2018 SJGT Cup (October)

Field Size: 40 players (20 per team).

Format: Team and individual matchplay (9-hole bestball, 9-hole alternate shot, 9-hole bestball, 9-hole individual matchplay, 9-hole individual matchplay).

Entry Requirements: Field is determined by SJGT Player of Year points.

Top-20 players from each age division.

Additional Info: If your birthday falls before August 1st of the year of the Cup, meaning you will move up an age division, you are only eligible to play in your NEW age division. Your points do not transfer up into your new age division, so it is your responsibility to decide which age division you play in point-qualifying tournaments before the Cup. If your birthday falls between August 1st and the date of the Cup, meaning you will move up an age division, you remain in your PREVIOUS age division.

Example A: Tiger is 13 years old. His 14th birthday is on July 20th of the year of the SJGT Cup. Tiger will only be eligible to play in the 14-15 division for the SJGT Cup. So, Tiger must play in 14-15 division tournaments throughout the year, to earn points toward his Cup qualifcation.

Example B: Michelle is 14 years old. Her 15th birthday is on August 20th of the year of the SJGT Cup. Michelle will only be eligible to play in the 12-14 division for the SJGT Cup. So, Michelle may play in 12-14 division tournaments throughout the year, to earn points toward her Cup qualification.

2018 Tournament of Champions (December)

Field Size: 84+ (all division winners from current year tournaments).

Format: 36-hole strokeplay.

Entry Requirements: Prior year Tournament of Champions age winners are exempt, if still age eligible.

You MUST win your age division at a tournament, throughout the year, to be eligible to play.

Additional Info: If your birthday falls before the Tournament of Champions, causing you to move age division, you are eligible to play in your NEW age division.

Example: Michelle is 14 years old. She wins a 12-14 division title before the Tournament of Champions. After her 12-14 division victory, Michelle then turns 15 BEFORE the Tournament of Champions. In this case, Michelle has qualified to play in the Female 15-19 division for the Tournament of Champions.
